How do I generate a QR code?
Type or paste any text, URL, or other content into the box above and a QR code is generated instantly. Use the settings to adjust the error correction level, output size, margin (the blank border required around every QR code) and foreground/background colours, then download it as a PNG or SVG.
What is error correction?
QR codes include built-in redundancy so they can still be scanned even if part of the code is damaged, dirty or obscured, for example by a logo placed in the middle. Higher error correction levels can recover from more damage, but the resulting code contains more data and so appears more densely packed for the same content.
Low is fine for a code that will stay clean and undamaged, such as one displayed on a screen. Medium is a sensible default for most printed uses. Quartile and High are worth using if the code will be printed small, handled a lot, or have a logo overlaid on top.
What's the margin?
The margin (also known as the 'quiet zone') is the blank border of empty modules required around the edge of every QR code so that scanners can reliably detect where the code starts and ends. Removing it entirely can cause some scanners to fail, so it's best left at the default of 4 modules unless you have a specific reason to reduce it.
How does the circle shape work?
Choosing 'Circle' draws a circular border around your QR code without touching the code itself – the underlying grid of squares is left completely untouched, so it scans exactly as reliably as the standard square version. The circle is sized generously so it never overlaps or crops any part of the code, including the corner squares that scanners rely on to find it.
Is my data uploaded anywhere?
No. The QR code is generated entirely in your browser using JavaScript, nothing you type is sent anywhere, so it's safe to use for private URLs, Wi-Fi credentials or other sensitive content. The one exception is the optional “Create tracked link” button, which you have to press yourself.
PNG or SVG, which should I choose?
PNG is a fixed-resolution image, ideal for quick sharing, screens or documents. SVG is a vector format that scales to any size without losing quality, which makes it the better choice for printing at large sizes, such as on posters or signage.
Can I put a logo in the middle of my QR code?
Yes. Open the settings, then drop a PNG, JPEG, WebP, GIF or SVG file into the logo box. Pick a square or circular logo and set its size. The logo sits on a plate in your background colour, so it stays clear against the code. The logo covers part of the code, so the tool switches error correction to High. Keep the logo at 30% of the code width or less, and always test the finished code with a phone. The logo is not uploaded anywhere.
Should I link to a long URL or a short one?
Either works, but a shorter URL makes a simpler code that is easier to scan. Sign in and use “Create tracked link” to swap your address for a short link from the link shortener. You also see how many people scan it.
Can I change where a printed QR code goes?
Yes, if it uses a tracked short link. Open the link in your dashboard and use “Redirect this link”. A code that holds the address directly can never be changed.
