How to convert HEIC to GIF

Drop your HEIC files into the box at the top of the page, or click it to browse your files. The converter makes a copy of each one in GIF format, and you can download them one by one or all at once. You can convert up to 4 images a day for free, up to 8 MB each. Pro removes the daily limit, lets you convert up to 30 images at a time, and accepts images up to 30 MB.

You can also resize your images and strip out metadata like EXIF data and GPS location while you convert. We store your images for an hour before we permanently delete them.

Converting HEIC to GIF

HEIC is typically used for photos taken on an iPhone, where small files save phone storage, while GIF is used for flat graphics and short animations that need to work in every browser and chat app.

What changes when I convert HEIC to GIF?

HEIC has already lost some detail to compression. Converting to GIF keeps what is there but cannot bring that detail back, and the file is usually larger.

GIF is limited to 256 colours, so photos and smooth gradients can look banded.

Your browser may not be able to show a preview of HEIC files, but they still convert as normal.

Understanding HEIC

HEIC is the format iPhones and many newer cameras use for photos. It keeps files small, but many websites, apps and older systems cannot open it.

Understanding GIF

GIF is a format limited to 256 colours per image. It supports simple on-or-off transparency and animation, which made it popular for short looping clips and flat graphics.

Once your images are converted, the colour converter can help you translate any hex, RGB or CMYK values you're working with into whichever format your design tools need next.
