How to convert images

This tool makes converting images simple, whether your images are GIFs, JPEGs, PNGs, TIFFs, BMPs or WebP format – with AVIF support where your browser and our servers allow it.

To get started, select which format you want to convert your images to, and then drop them into the box above or click to browse your files. You can convert up to 30 images at a time, with a maximum file size of 8 MB each.

You can also resize your images and strip out metadata like EXIF data and GPS location while you convert, which is useful if you're sharing photos and don't want to give away where they were taken.

After the conversion has finished, you'll be able to preview them, compare the before and after file sizes, and download them individually or all at once.

We'll store your images for an hour before we permanently delete them.

Why might WebP or AVIF format be better?

WebP and AVIF images can be a lot smaller than traditional GIFs, JPEGs or PNGs. When an image is smaller, it will take less time for your website visitors to download. A faster website = a better user experience, and also better SEO.

How does this tool work?

This tool uses the Intervention Image library to convert images.

Images are uploaded to the server using an AJAX call written in vanilla JavaScript, and are validated, converted and rate-limited server-side before being returned to you.

What if I need to work out a colour used in an image?

Once your images are converted, the colour converter can help you translate any hex, RGB or CMYK values you're working with into whichever format your design tools need next.
